Recommendation: “As Chinese Tourism Increases, American Museums Adapt”

Due to new visa regulations, Chinese tourism is increasing in the United States and is likely to increase further in the upcoming years. Its impact can not only be felt in retail where tourists usually spend a lot of money but also at museums which were visited by 36% of Chinese tourists in 2013 according to the U.S. Travel Association. Many of the museums are adapting with guidebooks and tours in Mandarin as well as an increased presence in Chinese social media. But the exhibitions are also changing to attract tourists: The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City celebrates the centennial of its Asian art department this year with an exhibition that will likely draw Chinese tourists.

Find out more about how museums are adapting to their new audience in the article  “As Chinese Tourism Increases, American Museums Adapt” by the New York Times here.
